ABC Announces Inaugural Draft 1st Round Selections!!

January 2, 1871

Today the ABC held the 1871 Inaugural Draft. Along with announcing the 1st round picks, each team's uniforms were unveiled.

The Chicago White Stockings started the show selecting our first hitter of the day.
CF Randy Newman is 27 years old from McAllen, Texas. He's going to be one of the top offensive players in the league.

With the second selection, the Washington Nationals selected the first of what is sure to be a group of dominant starting pitchers.
SP Greg Berry is a 22 year old from Saugerties, New York. No doubt Washington wanted to get their pitching staff started on the right foot.

Picking third, we have the Baltimore Canaries. Following in the footsteps of Washington, they decide to select a starting pitcher.
SP Rick Sawyer is another youngster at 22 years old. The Canaries hope he can anchor their rotation for many years to come.

Next up at fourth, we have the Boston Red Stockings selection.
C Matt Lane is a 22 year year old from Queens, New York. This young man will be one of the better catchers we see in the ABC.

With the fifth selection, the Philadelphia Keystones decide pitching wins games and they select the third starting pitching of the round.
SP Sergio Gonzalez comes from North Carolina. This 27 year old should get the Keystones off to a good start.

The New York Mutuals continue the starting pitcher trend with the sixth selection.
SP Ernesto Rodriguez is 22 years old. He grew up out west in Washington. No doubt this youngster will lead the Mutuals to a few wins.

Starting Pitching is in high demand! With the seventh pick, the Buffalo Bisons select another one!
SP Rick Frank comes from sunny Florida. Being 27 years old, he should give the Bisons many years of service.

The Cincinnati Reds have the final selection of Round 1. With no surprise, they select a starting pitcher.
SP Bernardo Sandoval is 27 years old, joining the ABC from Arizona. Cincinnati hopes the #6 starting pitcher turns out to be the best!
