Gibson Homers Twice As Tigers Scalp Tribe
Detroit,Mi.-Picking up right where they left off last season, the Detroit Tigers behind a fantastic day at the plate by Kirk Gibson took down the Cleveland Indians 6-4. Gibson went 3 for 3 on the day with 2 homers, a walk, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored while starting pitcher jack Morris(1-0) pitched 8 solid innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 9. Bert Blyleven(0-1) took the loss for Cleveland.

In the only game on the National League schedule today,the Cincinnati Reds needed 12 innings to finally put away the visiting Expos, winning by the score of 4-3. Pete Rose's 3 run homer in the bottom of the 2nd was his only hit of the day, leaving him just 93 hits shy of Ty Cobb's record.
