Red Hot Phils Pound Astros 11-5
The Astrodome,Houston,Tx.-Thanks to a 5 for 5 day by Von Hayes in which he walked, and knocked in two, the Phillies cruised to an 11-5 victory here at The Astrodome.Hayes, who's now reached base 10 straight times going back to last game has started the season absolutely blazing, with a batting average of .625 1 homer 6 RBI and an OBP of .684. Pitching for the Phillies today was 26 year old righty Charles Hudson(1-0), who went 8 and two thirds innings while allowing 5 runs on 9 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. For the Astros, starting pitcher Jim Deshaies(0-1) lasted just 5 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 walks and 4 earned runs while striking out 8.

In Other Games Of Note

The Yankees Phil Niekro(2-0) had his second straight dominant outing, allowing just 4 hits, 4 walks and 1 run(0 earned) while striking out 3 as the Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians 4-1. CF Rickey Henderson paced The Bombers offense, going 3 for 5 with an RBI, while 3B Mike Pagliarulo added a solo shot in the 4th.

Wayne Tolleson's one out triple in the bottom of the 11th set up Pete O'Brien's game winning RBI fielder's choice as the Texas Rangers outlasted the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0.Rangers reliever Dave Schmidt(1-0) pitched one perfect inning to get the win while the Brewers Ray Searage(0-1) took the loss.

Alan Knicely's 3 run homer in the top of the 4th was the difference in the ballgame, as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the New York Mets 6-3 here in Shea Stadium. On the hill for the Reds was starter Mario Soto(1-0), who went 8 solid innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2. Tom Power pitched a perfect 9th for his 2nd save of the season.
