Eckersley Dominant In 5-0 Shutout Of Montreal
Wrigley Field,Chicago,Ill.-In a game in which the Cubs launched 4 solo home runs, two by catcher Jody Davis and one each by LF Thad Bosley and SS Shawn Dunston the story of the game was starting pitcher Dennis Eckersley(2-0) who was just lights out, going the distance and allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6 in a 5-0 shutout of the powerful Montreal Expos. Taking the loss for Montreal was starting pitcher David Palmer(0-1) who lasted just 5 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 4.

42 year old Phillies starting pitcher Jerry Koosman turned back the clock today, going the distance while holding the Astros to just 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 5, in Philadelphia's 3-1 victory over the Astros that completed the three game sweep.
Craig Gerber's solo home run in the top of the 9th was the difference in the game, as the California Angles edged the Oakland A's 5-4. Angels starter Mike Witt(1-0) was in command all night, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits over 8 solid innings of work for his 1st win of the season, Donnie Moore recorded the save.
