Valenzuela Fans 15 In Dodgers 6-0 Victory
Dodger Stadium,Los Angeles,Ca.-Dodgers starting pitcher Fernando Valenzuela(1-1) was absolutely deadly today, pitching 8 shutout innings while allowing 4 hits and 3 walks and striking out 15 Astros batters in today's 6-0 Dodger victory. Offensively the Dodgers were led by Pedro Guerrero, who went 2 for 3 with a walk, an RBI and run scored and Mike Marshall who chipped in with two RBI singles. Bob Knepper(1-1) went 6 innings in the loss for struggling Houston.

In Other Games Of Note

Home runs from Mike Greenwell and Tony Armas along with a two hit two RBI day by catcher Rich Gedman was more than enough support for Red Sox starter Bruce Hurst(1-0) who went the distance while allowing 1 run on 7 hits in Boston's 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the 8th,the San Diego Padres stormed back, tying the game on Terry Kennedy RBI ground out followed by a Steve Garvey 2 run homer and then winning it, 5-4 on a Graig Nettles bases loaded pinch hit walk in the bottom of the 9th off of Giants reliever Scott Garrelts(0-1)

Pete Rose went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored and catcher Alan Knicely added a 3 run double as the Cincinnati Reds destroyed the Atlanta Braves 8-2. With his 3 hits today, Rose is just 88 hits shy of tying Ty Cobb's all time career hit record.
