Devil Rays add another thirdbaseman

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Devil Rays today agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $1.7 million with veteran third baseman Bill Mueller.
Mueller, 38, hit .261 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI, scoring 71 runs in 132 games with the Oakland Athletics last season. He is a career .277 hitter who has played with the San Francisco Giants (1996-1999), Cincinnati Reds (2000), Chicago Cubs (2000-2002), Texas Rangers (2003), Boston Red Sox (2005-2006), Detroit Tigers (2006), Cleveland Indians (2007), Houston Astros (2007-2008), and A's.
Mueller will compete with Garret Atkins and Alex Gordon for the starting job at third base with the Devil Rays in 2010.
