Clemens Injured In 5-1 Victory Over Royals
Royals Stadium,Kansas City,Mo.-Following 8 and a third dominating innings in which he allowed 5 hits, a walk, and 1 earned run while striking out 6, Red Sox prized youngster Roger Clemens(1-0) left the game complaining of shoulder soreness, handing the ball to reliever Rob Woodward who retired the final two batters to preserve Boston's 5-1 victory over the Royals. Following the game, the Red Sox held a press conference to announce that Clemens had been diagnosed with a mild right shoulder strain that will keep him out of action for about two weeks.

Dodgers-1 Astros-0
In a fantastic pitcher's duel, the Dodgers Bob Welch(2-0) allowed just 3 hits over 8 shutout innings while striking out 8 Astros batters to outduel Houston's Mike Scott(0-2) who's one mistake, a 7th inning home run to the Dodgers Mike Marshall cost him the game 1-0. LA closer Tom Niedenfuer pitched a scoreless 9th for his 3rd save of the season.

Blue Jays-7 Rangers-3
Willie Upshaw's grand slam home run in the bottom of the 7th inning broke a close game wide open, as the Blue Jays defeated the Rangers 7-3. Besides Upshaw, the Jays also got homers from catcher Buck Martinez and SS Tony Fernandez while starting pitcher Jimmy Key(2-0) allowed 3 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks over 8 and a third innings for his 2nd win of the year.

Cardinals-3 Expos-2
Willie McGee's solo home run in the bottom of the 8th snapped a 2-2 tie and propelled the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Expos. Cards reliever Ricky Horton(1-0) pitched just one third of an inning to get the win, while Montreal's Joe Heskith(1-1) went the distance in the loss.

MLB News And Notes

Rob Murphy, a 24 year old relief pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds will be out of action for about 4 months due to an arthritic right elblow that may require surgery. Reliever Mike Smith has been brought up to replace him.

The San Francisco Giants have acquired 31 year old reliever Scott McGregor from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for 25 year old 2B Mike Woodard

The Chicago White Sox have traded 26 year old 3B Scott Fletcher to the Atlanta Braves for 31 year old pitcher Rick Mahler

The California Angels have traded 25 year old RF Mike Brown to the Milwaukee Brewers for 31 year old catcher Charlie Moore.
