you're watching. He leapt high enough that his elbow hit the returner in the jaw (which is more than likely what knocked him out).
Granted, I never played football above high school level, but I doubt that at some point in college or the NFL he was taught that the proper way to make a tackle is to leap as high as you can. You only do that when your intent is to harm. That crap has no place in sports.
