MLB Game Of The Day
Monday April 22,1985
AT
Three Rivers Stadium,Pittsburgh,Pa.

Dominant for most of today's game, the Pittsburgh Pirates took a 5-2 lead into the top of the 9th inning, thanks to a big day by CF Marvelle Wynne(2 for 5 2 RBI, SB) as well as a solid pitching performance by starter Jose Deleon(1-1) who went 8 strong, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. In the 9th though, the Cubs struck back. Facing Bucs closer Kent Tekulve the Cubbies went single, walk, RBI single, single, RBI sac fly, to make it a 5-4 game, with runners on first and second and one out. Tekulve though, showing the calm of a pitcher in his 11th year, got it together just in time, and retired the final two batters of the game on a routine ground out and a pop up, preserving Pittsburgh's 5-4 victory and collecting his 3rd save of the season.

Today's Injuries

Expos starting pitcher Joe Hesketh developed a mild calf strain forcing him out of today's victory over the Phillies, but luckily the injury is said to be very minor and he's not expected to miss a start.

Oakland A's CF Dwayne Murphy twisted his ankle on a steal attempt in today's game against the Angels. He'll be out for about 4 days.
