Dodger Stadium,Los Angeles,Ca.

On a picture perfect day here at Chavez Ravine,Dodgers starter Orel Hershiser(3-0) was simple too much for the visiting Padres to handle.Hershiser,logged 8 shutout innings,allowing 6 hits and 0 walks while striking out 9 in the Dodgers 3-0 victory.Closer Tom Niedenfuer provided more of the same,pitching a scoreless 9th to earn his 6th save of the year.Offensively,the Dodgers Pedro Guerrero provided the fireworks courtesy of a two run homer in the 5th, CF Ken Landreaux added some insurance with an RBI single in the 8th to close out the day's scoring.With the win,the Dodgers improve their record to an impressive 14-6,good enough for first place in the competitive NL West.For San Diego,starting pitcher Lamar Hoyt(1-2) went the distance in the loss.

Today's Injuries

Cubs 1B Richie Hebner has developed tennis elbow,and will be out of action for about two weeks.

Royals 2B Frank White bruised his right wrist in today's game against Boston and will be out for a game or two.

Brewers CF Dion James pulled a back muscle in today's game and will be out for about 6 days.

MLB News And Notes
Nelson Simmons' 3 run homer in the top of the 10th sparked the Tigers to a 6-4 victory over division rival Milwaukee ti improve their record to an MLB best 14-3.

Rafael Santana's RBI single in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the game winner,as Rick Aguilera(1-2) and the Mets defeated Larry McWilliams(1-2) and the Pirates 3-2.
