In my league we play with whatever benefits the GM. I stay away from editing the game files but when we do get a career ending injury- it up to the GM to accept it or dispute it. If they accept it- I do nothing. This is good if they are old or terrible with a bad contract. If they dispute it- I uncheck CEI box. Then I change the injury time to min of 12 months or leave it as is if its over 12 months.

While CEI are realistic and happen in real life- they do take away from enjoyment of playing the game so I don't mind eliminating them.
