Los Angeles000000030391
Wichita03000003X6100
W: A. Orth (15-9) L: B. Lawrence (13-11)
HR - LA: M. Donlin (30) WIC: H. Collins (6)

The red-hot Brian Lawrence - August's Southern League Pitcher of the Month - throws well after giving up three in the third, buying enough time for Mike Donlin to blast a three-run shot off Al Orth in the top of the 8th. But Lawrence gives up a leadoff double to Buddy Kerr in the 8th, and Mark Buehrle throws gas on the fire, allowing a 3-run homer to Hub Collins to seal it for Wichita.

Mark Prior strikes out a career-high 15 in a great performance for New Orleans, going 8 1/3 before leaving after allowing Ned Williamson a leadoff triple and Orlando Hudson to drive him home with a sac fly. Ewell Blackwell gets the save despite allowing a Khalil Greene homer.

Bill Byrd allows one run over eight innings, backed by three hits - including a homer - from Roger Connor and four hits apiece from Ed McKean and Dick Higham in the rout. Martin Dihigo added three hits for New York as well.

W: J. McGinnity (14-10) L: B. Arroyo (10-13)
HR - SAC: M. Ensberg (7), G. Beaumont (14) SA: F. Parent (7)

Joe McGinnity went the distance, allowing two runs and striking out five with support from Freddy Parent - who hit a 2-run homer in the 5th - and 3 RBI from Joe Sugden.

W: D. Haren (15-6) L: N. Cuppy (12-10) S: B. Donnelly (25)
HR - LOU: H. Matsui (2) ALA: J. Rollins (10)

Alabama hangs in out west, as Dan Haren buckles down after a rough third, holding on long enough for Jimmy Rollins to hit a 3-run homer that would be the go-ahead runs. Haren went eight before Brendan Donnelly threw a perfect ninth for the save.
