The Idols bend but don't break behind Billy Rhines, as Mike Donlin homers for the third straight game. Los Angeles sent out a lineup today with seven men hitting above .300.

Neither Philly's Jeff Francis nor New Orleans' Rich Harden figure in the decision despite strong outings. But New Orelans' two-run 9th off Manny Corpas, capped by a Sam Thompson RBI single goes for naught when the red-hot callup Khalil Greene hits an RBI single in the 11th for the Ringers' winning run.

W: B. Hoffer (17-9) L: F. Killen (20-3)
HR - NY: I. Meusel (10) ORL: W. Cruise (11) |
Orlando gets what it needs from its ace, as Bill Hoffer outduels the Northern League's best this year in Fred Killen, who surrenders a leadoff homer to Walton Cruise in the 9th to win it for the Orcas. Buck Freeman strained an oblique in the win, however. Carlos Pena should replace him in the interim.

HR - SA: F. Parent 2 (9) |
Another exciting one here, as the ligh-hitting Freddy Parent - hitting only .201 on the year, bangs two homers, giving him three in his last two games, to lead San Antonio to victory.

W: R. Oswalt (17-4) L: B. Dinneen (0-2)
HR - LOU: B. Southworth (15), L. Marr (14), D. Brouthers (28) |
Roy Oswalt seeks his first playoff berth, and is doing everything he can to get there as Louisville tries to chase down New York. Oswalt went the distance, striking out 8 and walking only 1 as the offense erupted, led by Dan Brouthers' four hits as well as three apiece from Herman Long and Lefty Marr.
