Right, I specifically remember this too. One thing about pitch trax - I think it shows where the ball ends up in the mitt, not where it crosses the plate. With Marte's sweeping slider, it may catch the front corner of the plate, but end up outside in the mitt. Though I agree, the pitches to Utley were pretty questionable.

I listened to an interview by the CEO or whatever from one of the companies who does these pitch trackers (I think there are two of them). He stated that the technology allows them to get the ball as it breaks the plane of home plate at the front. This confirms what I see for the most part. He also said that a backdoor slider or other such pitch that misses the front of the plate but end up to our eyes as a strike will be correctly called. Having umpired more than a few games that is one of the toughest calls to me.

There is no way you can watch a borderline pitch on TV and think you see it better than the pitch tracker. The camera angle, distance, height and some high school geometry can easily show that.
