John O'Rourke and Charley Jones each drove in three runs on the day, with Jones homering twice, as New York got a poor start from Bill Drake before Ubaldo Jimenez imploded over the final two innings to put it out of reach.

Louisville's 5-9 hitters went 10-23 with 7 RBI as the Racers went back into first with after coming back from an 8-1 deficit. Joe Kelley and Lefty Marr each had three hits and Hideki Matsui drove in three for Louisville, which got three scoreless innings out of Jason Jennings to enable them to claw back against the Charlotte bullpen.
