If you're playing a historical league that is taking place in 1872, you will not have enough real players to fill out an active roster of 25 players. Note that the actual active roster limit in 1872 was about 12-13 players. (There was no official limit, but financially clubs could only afford to carry a small number of players, and that amounted to nine regulars plus three or four reserves. Clubs usually only played three games per week back then, making it possible to have just a two-man pitching staff.)
