An RBI single by Wade Rowdon along with a 3 run homer by Tom Foley gave the Reds a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the 8th,but the Pirates fought back,drawing three walks off of Reds reliever Ron Robinson to load the bases for pinch hitter Roy Smalley who slammed a double down the right field line,clearing the bases and putting the Bucs in front by the score of 6-4.From there,it was all Kent Tekulve,who sat the Reds down in order in the 9th to preserve the win and collect his 8th save of the season.

The Atlanta Braves have traded 29 year old catcher Larry Owen to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for 29 year old 2B Ron Oester.

Angels DH Reggie Jackson went 2 for 4 with 2 homers,4 RBI and 2 runs scored,while starting pitcher Geoff Zahn allowed 1 run on 10 hits over 8 and a third,as California buried the Yankees 9-1 here at The Big A.
