The easiest way is to just copy the .lg folder to an external source like a flash drive. Everything you need is contained in that folder. After you reformat, just copy the .lg folder back into the saved game folder. Thats it.
There are ways to backup in-game, but that only backs up the data I think. No pics and add ons.
Important: Make sure you unlicense the game before you reformat.
