Palacio Deportes, Havana, Cuba
The best Cuba has to offer in the boxing world all take on opponents from around the globe as they look to become world champions.
FW: Miguel Acevedo 17-1 (6) UD 8 Habimana Saitoti 9-10 (1)
Acevedo cruised to a wide decision as he remains #5 in the featherweights.
HW: Nino Valdes 19-1 (12) KO 1 Andy Wilson 8-5-1 (3)
Everyone wrote off Valdes when he was upset by Gordon Robertson in a 1st round KO, but since then he has won three bouts, all by KO, and two of them in the 1st round. Valdes improves to #11 in the heavyweight division.
BW: Manuel Armenteros 14-0 (8) UD 8 Valdemar Lang 11-13-4
Armenteros found Lang surprisingly difficult to handle as he only just escaped with a close decision. Armenteros overtakes canadian Fernando Gagnon for the #3 spot.
LW: Orlando Zulueta 15-0 (1) UD 8 Oscar Hayes 6-7-1 (2)
Shutout for Zulueta in a dull fight. Zulueta remains #7.

WW: Kid Gavilan 15-0-1 (1) vs Doug Lane 12-13 (3), 8 rounds
"The Cuban Hawk" has impressed alot of pundits because of incredible defense and hand speed that has already secured him decision win against Norman Rubio (15-3, 2 KOs today) and Danny Kapilow (22-3, 14 KOs today). Doug Lane is tough (only been stopped once), but he is no match for Gavilan.
Round 1
Good action as Lane actually gets in a couple of good shots, though Gavilan lands more effectively to take the round. 10-9 Kid Gavilan
Round 2
Alot of clinching for the first minute, replaced with nice exchanges that noone, surprisingly, seemed to get the better of. Slow start so far for the cuban hawk. 20-19 Kid Gavilan
Round 3
This is the Gavilan i know. Moving in and out, scoring with quick punches, and not getting hit in turn. 30-28 Kid Gavilan
Round 4
Gavilan misses more than you'd expect him to, but still does more work. Not the slaughtering expected so far though. 40-37 Kid Gavilan
Round 5
Carbon copy of the 4th, except this time he does not do enough to take the round. 50-47 Kid Gavilan
Round 6
What a snoozefest. No action at all for the first 2 minutes, then Gavilan lands some combinations to grab the round. 60-56 Kid Gavilan
Round 7
Nice round, though Lane did more work and landed more and took the round. 69-66 Kid Gavilan
Round 8
First really good round for the cuban. 79-75 Kid Gavilan
We go to the scorecards: 79-74 on all three cards for Kid Gavilan
Unimpressive, but Gavilan does show elements of skill as he improves to 16-0-1 with 1 KO, and a ranking of #7.
Main Event (live)
BW: Luis Galvani 23-0 (12) vs Tony Mathis 9-15-2 (1), 10 rounds
The undefeated Bantamweight #1 takes on journeyman Tony Mathis and should get an easy win with his fast and accurate punches.
Round 1
Mathis lands the more meaningfull punches as Galvani just tries to find the distance. 10-9 Tony Mathis
Round 2
Galvani lands at will in the beginning, but Mathis gets in a big punch. Galvani is unfazed and dishes out a beating for the remainder of the round. 19-19 Even
Round 3
Galvani wins the round with some nice counter-punching. 29-28 Luis Galvani
Round 4
Galvani stuns Mathis several times and has him on wobbly legs. 39-37 Luis Galvani
Round 5
Galvani dances and scores at will. Big round for the cuban. 49-46 Luis Galvani
Round 6
Mathis is taking some serious punishment, but he is still throwing punches and occasionally landing. Galvani is looking great so far. 59-55 Luis Galvani
Round 7
After none to little action for most of the round, Galvani stuns Mathis in a late rally to win the round. 69-64 Luis Galvani
Round 8
Galvani is dishing out some more punishment as swelling starts to appear around Mathis right eye. The action slows late in the round. 79-73 Luis Galvani
Round 9
Big shots seriously hurts Mathis who is send to the canvas, unable to rise.
Luis Galvani KO 9 Tony Mathis
A really good perfomance from Luis Galvani who improves to 24-0 with 13 knockouts and remains on top of the bantamweight division.
