1962 PRE SEASON REPORT
PRE SEASON PLAYER MOVES

The 1962 pre season is underway with trades and free agent signings. The Yankees only lost two players to free agency. The most notable was 1961 World Series pitching star Ralph Terry being signed by the expansion Houston Colt .45’s. The Yankees could not reach an agreement with veteran pitcher Art Ditmar, who signed with the expansion New York Mets. When asked by this reporter Terry said “ I feel sad about leaving New York, but I am looking forward to being with a first year team”. Ditmar stated that he is “looking forward to being reunited with former manager, Casey Stengel”.
But the Yankees were able to resign Bob Turley, Luis Arroyo, third baseman Clete Boyer, Tex Clevenger and Ryne Duren.

BALTIMORE
Traded outfielder Al Spangler to to Kansas City for third baseman Andy Carey and minor league outfielder Barry Jones.
BOSTON
Signed third baseman Brooks Robinson.
DETROIT
Traded outfielder Charlie Maxwell to Philadelphia for SS Joe Koppe and minor league outfielder Scotty Couch.
HOUSTON Signed free agent pitcher Ralph Terry and Hal Brown another starting pitcher.
KANSAS CITY Sent infielder Elio Chacon to Milwaukee for pitcher Ron Piche.
LA ANGELS Signed free agent pitcher Stu Miller to a 1 year contract at $200,100.
NEW YORK METS Signed free agent outfielder Gene Woodling and pitcher Art Ditmar and Ralph Terry and relief pitcher Dick Hall. Hall signed a 1 year deal reported to be around $126,000.
PITTSBURGH Signed free agent SS Felix Mantilla to a six year deal reported to be about to be about $2,281,200..
SAN FRANCISCO Signed two free agents 3B Don Hoak and Leftfielder Bob Skinner. Skinner signed for a reported $61,200 for two years.
WASHINGTON Signed free agent Camillo Pascual from the Twins for $ 2,281,200 for six years, for Pascual he is returning to Washington to play for the new Senators.
The Yankees are headed to their spring training home in Fort Lauderdale, FL to start working to defend their crown.
