Just two months after getting dropped three times by David Izon en route to a fifteen round decision loss, Buster Douglas, reclaimed his title from Izon with a fifteen round split decision win in Atlantic City.

The challenger and former champ came out strong, dominating the first five rounds. Living up to his nickname, he busted up the champion's face, partially closing his right eye and making blood flow from Izon's mouth and nose.

Despite Douglas' camp's claims that their man was in great condition, he started to fade in the middle rounds, allowing Izon to mount a strong comeback.

Just when it seemed Izon was about to go ahead on the unofficial scorecards, Douglas dropped the champ with a picture perfect right cross in the twelfth round. Izon barely beat the count and was floored again with a combination.

The final three rounds were a war as both men realized the championship of the world, may hang in the balance.

The final scores were 145-139 Douglas, 143-142, Izon and 144-143 Douglas. This ringside observer had it 143-140 Douglas.

Douglas has his work cut out for him as #1 contender Jack Johnson has been waiting paitently in the wings.
