The Twins also played a month without the future 2009-AL MVP, a month without the 2006 MVP, the year without a solid relief pitcher, major injuries up and down the starting rotation, he took a team 6 games back in the last two weeks of the season an won the division, the Twins saw first place April 11 and didn't see it again until Oct. 3.
I don't know what the requirements are for Manager of the Year; but if Pyt. W-L is the deciding vote Wakamatsu should have won it. Like I said, Scioscia is a good choice; I just (bias-ly) think there was a better one. Yes, Scioscia did have to manage a team that lost a player and had to deal with his fair share of injuries...but his team also got in first place on July 11 and didn't lose it. His team also has a payroll nearly double that of the Twins.
I'm not pissed, Scioscia isn't a bad choice. Gardenhire has been consistently solid, solid manager that continues to get shutout in the Manager of the Year voting. 2006 - somehow Leyland gets it over Gardenhire. 2004 - Showalter gets it over Gardenhire. 2003 - Pena gets it over Gardenhire. 2002 - Scioscia and Howe are above Gardenhire.
Add 2009, Gardenhire just can't catch a break.

Princess Leia: But, why must you confront him?
Luke: Because, there is good in him. I've felt it. He won't turn me over to the Emperor. I can save him. I can turn him back to the good side. I have to try
