LHW EOY Tournament - Opening Round (repost)

Opening Round Matches

(#1) CH-Jack Delaney 52-10-1 (36) vs. (#16) Melio Bettina 35-24-1 (24)

Jack Delaney is the reigning LHW Champion who has made 1 successful title defense and has a record of 2-1 in title bouts. He is making his 3rd consecutive appearance in the EOY Tournament with a tournament record of 2-2. Melio Bettina is making his 1st appearance in the EOY Tournament. This will be his first title shot. Delaney and Bettina have never fought.

Round 1: Back-and-forth action. Too close to call
Round 2: Delaney presses action. Bettina is a bit shaken at end of round
Round 3: Nice bounceback round for Bettina. Delaney's right eye begins to swell
Round 4: Delaney is strong for 1st half of round. Bettina is busier in 2nd half
Round 5: Slight edge for Bettina
Round 6: Good round for Bettina. Delaney is cut over left eye. Swelling of Delaney's right eye increases
Round 7: Close round
Round 8: Big round for Delaney. Delaney cut under left eye. Swelling on Delaney's right eye is bothering him. Bettina has swelling near left eye
Round 9: Delaney comes out wild and looking desperate. More swelling of Delaney's right eye. Bettina scores a knockdown. Delaney is up at 8 but is hurt badly
Round 10: Delaney goes all-out. Bettina's left eye swelling more. Brutal uppercut sends Bettina to the canvas. He is counted out by the ref with time expired in the round

Tony Anthony is making his 2nd consecutive appearance in the EOY Tournament and has a 1-1 tournament record. He has never fought for the LHW Title and enters the bout on a 4-bout losing streak incurred during the playoffs. Prince Charles Williams enters his 3rd consecutive EOY Tournament with a 0-2 tournament record. He has not yet fought for the LHW Title. Anthony and Williams fought once before with Anthony winning by 4th round knockout.

Round 2: Both fighters active. Anthony is a bit busier
Round 3: Even round
Round 4: Big round for Anthony
Round 5: Huge round for Anthony. Williams has a bad cut on his left eyelid from an accidental headbutt. Anthony receives t warning from the ref for holding and blatant rabbit punching
Round 6: Anthony starts to target Williams damaged eye. Cut is reopened and blood starts pouring. Referee stops the action and calls the fight on the advice of the ringside physician. The fight will go to the cards

Bob Fitzsimmons is a former LHW Champion who has made 11 successful title defenses and has a 12-2 record in title bouts. He is making his 3rd consecutive EOY Tournament and has a 1-2 tournament record. George Gardiner is a 2-time LHW Title challenger who was unsuccessful in both of his title opportunities. He is making his 3rd consecutive appearance in the EOY Tournament and has a 2-2 tournament record. In their first match, then-champion Fitzsimmons knocked out overmatched Gardiner in 3 rounds

Round 1: Gardiner comes out aggressively and looks good until Fitzsimmons lands a hard shot to Gardiner's ribcage. Gardiner goes down to both knees. The ref counts to 10 and the fight is quickly over

Harold Johnson enters his 3rd consecutive EOY Tournament with a 3-2 tournametn record. He lost in the Season 1 EOY Tournament final to Karoly Balzsay. The Balzsay fight was Johnson's only chance to fight for the LHW Title. Jimmy Adamick makes his 3rd consecutive appearance in the EOY Tournament with a 1-2 tournament record. Coincidentally, both of Adamick's EOY losses were to Karoly Balzsay. Adamick has never fought for the LHW Title. This will be the 1st meeting between Johnson and Adamick

Round 1: Johnson puts on a boxing clinic
Round 2: Slower round. Adamick did not land a single punch
Round 3: Another easy round for Johnson
Round 4: Not much action. Johnson busier
Round 5: Another easy round for Johnson
Round 6: Adamick has left eye swelling. Adamick may have done enough to win the round
Round 7: Close round. Adamick showed more aggressiveness
Round 8: More swelling to Adamick's left eye. Adamick hurts Johnson
Round 9: Close round. Adamick lands harder punches
Round 10: Another boxing clinic by Johnson. Adamick is bothered by more swelling on left eye
Round 11: Close round. Johnson warned for holding and hitting
Round 12: Adamick's left eye almost shut. Johnson winning round until Adamick staggers him just before bell
Round 13: Johnson on his horse. Adamick cannot catch up to him to land
Round 14: Nice round for Johnson. Swelling on left eye getting worse for Adamick
Round 15: Johnson scores a flash knockdown. Adamick up at 2. Johnson goes for the kill. Adamick dropped for 2nd time and counted out at 2:19 of last round

Round 3: Close round. Dawson hurt badly by body shots. Dawson warned holding and hitting
Round 4: Big round for Jones Jr. Dawson warned for headbutting
Round 5: Jones Jr jumps all over Dawson. Dawson is defenseless. Dawson's corner throws in the towel @ 2:41 mark

Round 7: Even round. Lopez warned for leaning on Johnson's neck
Round 8: Big round for Johnson. Lopez has left eye swelling
Round 9: Johnson looks tired. Lopez pounces and goes all-out. Lopez warned for holding and hitting. Johnson get hurt. Ref stops fight @ 2:51 of the round
