MLB Game Of The Day
AT
The Astrodome,Houston,Tx.
Thursday,June 27,1985
Clinging to a 1-0 lead as the game entered the 5th inning, the Braves exploded for 5 runs in the frame, getting home runs from Bob Horner and Dale Murphy as well as a two run single from Scott Fletcher putting the game away in the process,as Atlanta went on to win 6-2.Starting pitcher Joe Johnson(8-3) continued to pitch well in his rookie season, allowing 1 run on 7 hits with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts in 6 and two thirds innings pitched.Relievers Jeff Dedmon and Steve Shields took over from there, with the only blemish being a Jose Cruz RBI triple in the 8th that was far too little and far too late to make a difference.Taking the loss for Houston was starter Bob Knepper(5-7),who allowed 6 runs(1 earned) on 5 hits while walking and striking out 1 in 6 innings pitched.

Trailing 2-1 in the 9th and in danger of being swept at home, the Blue Jays dug deep, getting RBI singles from Rick Leach and then Willie Upshaw off of Brewers closer Rollie Fingers to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, defeating Milwaukee 3-2.
In the rubber match here at Wrigley, the Mets, got a strong pitching performance by Sid Fernandez(8-5) as well as key RBI hits from Mookie Wilson and Gary Carter,to defeat the Cubs 5-3,extending their division lead to an impressive 6.5 games.
Today's MLB Injuries
Phillies CF Von Hayes became the latest casualty in Philadelphia thanks to an inflamed right knee which will keep him out for 2-3 weeks.
