September 27, 1911
Chief Bender of the Boston Rustlers tossed a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds. This is the first no-no of Bender's illustrious career. The final score was 4-0, Boston. Bender has come close to no-hitters on two prior occasions, once in 1905, and again in 1907. This was the first no-hitter pitched since Brent St. John of the Phillies bamboozled the Giants in May of 1910. St. John had also pitched the no-hitter previous to that, with a blanking of the Cubs at the end of the 1909 season.
