Mets promote Lambert to general manager position
by Harry Jackson
After Omar Minaya's suprising resignation yesterday, the New York Mets have named assistant general manager Jack Lambert as their new director of baseball operations. Lambert, a noted sabermetric, becomes the youngest general manager ever at age 24. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 2006 with degrees in finance and statistics. He also pitched for the schools baseball team and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round but chose to be an intern in the Mets front office. When asked about his predictions for the upcoming season he said "We've got a good strong core and some nice supporting players that will take us a long way. I plan to make some shuffles in the farm system, and with our core and some of our prospects I believe we can make a good team for years to come." The Mets season starts on Monday on the road against the Cincinnati Reds.
