After a straight KO loss on the part od either fighter a rumored fix emerges. This will effect the reputation of the fighter involved. May hamper his ability to get fights he wants and opponents. It may also, if it is a big main event bout or a title bout, effect the legislation in the area hosting the fight.
Gans vs. McGovern led to fights being illegal in Chicago
As a side note, caught a rerun of an old untouchables episode two nights ago. "The Untouchables" Head of Fire: Feet of Clay (1960)
21 April 1960 (Season 1, Episode 27)
It has my all-time favorite fixed-fight scene in TV/film history. Eliot's childhood friend, played by Jack Warden, is the owner/promoter of a Chicao arena. Nemiah Persoff is the local mobster who controls the fight game. Warden invites Ness to the fights. The local favorite is fighting beautifully. Ness comments on the block of seven unoccupied ringside seats. Warden tells Ness they belong to the mobster and that he won't arrive until round 8, when the fight's gonna end. After the 7th, Persoff and his minions march in and sit down. Persoff eats a bag of peanuts. He finishes the bag before the end of round 8. He blows up the empty bag and pops it. Local favorite takes one on the chin, goes down, and stays down.
