The way I see it, it's time for someone else to man up and get something started on this. I've had enough waiting around, and since the code will never be released, it's time for someone to DIY.
First and foremost, I have next to NO programming experience. I do however have 20+ years experience in using computers, and 5+ years experience Technical Support in a business environment. (i.e, I'm not dumb, I know my way around a keyboard and am familiar with programming concepts....just not familiar with the actual art of programming!).
I'm going to try and (attempt) to get something kickstarted. Whether it be something that I start that someone else (more talented) finishes, or whether its something I start and finish to a satisfactory standard. I'd be happy either way.
I'm not going to even attempt to get into this at C++ level. I intend to start with basic idea's and concepts using VisualBasic. I have no experience with VisualBasic but I have too much time on my hands, so there is every chance I can make fast ground.
At the moment, the idea itself for an RPG element is still being kicked around in my head. Right now at this moment in time I'm thinking along two different design philosophies, either of which could work in reality:
1) The first option is to come up with a standalone RPG module that does not have anything to do with TBCB and does not physically connect to it with code. However, you would still need to rely on TBCB for results of matchups (and other misc data), the results of which you would then feed manually back into the standalone RPG element. That way, you would have to run TBCB and the Management Element seperately and at the same time, but it would be a good way to do things as TBCB already has a good fight engine in place.
2) The other way of doing this, is to do away with TBCB altogether and come up with a fight engine from scratch that would be incorporated into the Management Element as one piece of software (i.e, a complete game in its own right). This is the more time consuming option and I'm not sure my limited ability would stretch to this.
I'm exploring both ideas right now (and they are just idea's at this stage) plus I'm willing to explore any and all idea's layed down by anyone else.
I'm particularly interested in getting in touch with Kosh Naranek as he seems to have some programming expertise behind him. Maybe we could work together on this project? Or maybe he could give me some (much needed) advice.
Nobody should expect miracles, and nobody should expect a result any time too quickly. Projects like this often take weeks/months just in the planning stage and thats even before you start writing even the most basic of code for the thing. Just think of this project as being in the discussion stages right now.
And I know what you're thinking. This guy's got nothing, no experience, no skills, nothing......and you're right. But the way I see it is I'm all you got right now. Who knows, maybe I can just get this thing started, get it lifted off the ground, and maybe someone way more suitable will come by after some time, be inspired, and take it off my hands and to the next level. All I know is that someone has got to make a start at something, and big things usually tend to start small. (oaks from acorns and all that).
If there is anyone out there willing to lend a hand with advice (preferably) someone with programming experience, and practical VisualBasic experience.
I just thought I'd let you lot know that there is at least one person who is actively working to get something going. Like I said, dont expect fast results and dont expect miracles. I'm just the guy that plants the acorn, fate is the thing that will make it grow or die.
