At the third attempt, Argentinian Pascual Perez got the better of Welshman Jimmy Wilde.
The fight was nicely balanced at halfway with both men standing toe to toe and trading heavy blows. The defining round of the fight was the eighth, Perez waded into Wilde and the Welshman hit the canvas after a flurry of punches. Wilde scrambled to his feet at the nine count but Perez was unable to finish the job.
Wilde took a couple of rounds to get back on track but Perez continued to hold his own and ran out a comfortable winner.
Perez will now travel to Glasgow to meet Benny Lynch in the tournaments fourth quarter final.
