April 12-Mo Vaughn went 3-4 with a homerun, three runs scored and four RBI, and Scott Cooper added three hits, a homerun and three RBI as the Boston express kept rolling in this battle of unbeaten teams as the Red Sox destroyed the Indians, 13-4. Rookie Aaron Sele was the beneficiary of all the offense, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, striking out five, improving to 2-0. (7-0)

April 14-Mo Vaughn hit a two run triple in the first inning, Scott Fletcher added two hits and two runs scored, as Boston took the second game of the three game set against Cleveland, nipping the Indians, 5-4. April 15-Mike Greenwell walked, his third of the game, with the bases loaded and the score tied in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Red Sox improved to 9-0, completing the sweep of the Indians, beating Cleveland 4-3. Luis Rivera, making his first appearance of the year, went 3-4 with two runs scored, leading the Boston offense. (9-0)

April 16-The winning streak came to a screeching halt today, as the White Sox pounded out 15 hits and 13 runs, lead by Luis Alicea, who had a three run double and Robin Ventura, who hit a homerun as Chicago ran all over Boston, 13-2. Jack McDowell scattered 10 hits over eight innings, giving up just the two runs, picking up the win. (9-1)

April 17-Luis Alicea pounded Red Sox pitching for four hits, including two doubles and five RBI and Robin Ventura added two hits and three RBI as the White Sox hammered Boston again, today 11-6. Tony Pena went 3-5 with a homerun and two RBI to lead the Boston offense. (9-2)

April 18-Mike Greenwell went 4-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and three RBI, and John Dopson pitched eight innings, giving up just one run as Boston snapped their two game losing streak, beating Chicago, 9-1. Dopson allowed seven hits, walking two and striking out one, improving to 2-0 on the year. Tim Naehring added three hits and three runs scored in the win for Boston. (10-2)

One week after signing Tom Glavine to a contract extension, the Atlanta Braves have signed another member of their vaunted pitching staff, Steve Avery, to a new two year, $5.7 million dollar contract. Avery went 11-11 with a 3.20 ERA last year after posting an 18-8 3.38 ERA in 1991. The 23 year old is 2-0 with a 1.19 ERA in three starts so far this year. He has given up just 17 hits and five walks over 23 innings, while striking out 14.
Next on the schedule for the Sox is the beginning of the annual early season West Coast swing, with three games in Seattle against Ken Griffey Jr and the Mariners, followed by three games south in Anaheim against the Angels.
