The Final

Yankee Stadium

Both fighters enter the ring in great shape.

Round 1 - Perez shades the first. The Argentinian counters Canto's searching jab with two big right hands. 10 - 9 Perez

Round 2 - Good start from Perez. He takes the points again landing two nice shots inside after slipping Canto's lead. Perez 20 - 18.

Round 3 - This has been an ideal and somewhat surprising start from Perez. Once again he manages to slip the Mexican's punches and land some decent right hands. Perez 30 - 27.

Round 4 - Nothing between them. The pair trade blows with Perez landing a peach of a hook to the body. Perez 40 - 37

Round 5 - Canto's workrate outdoes Perez's power and wins him the first round of the contest. Perez 49 - Canto 47

Round 6 - Canto lands the best punch of the fight so far. After avoiding a left jab from his opponent Perez walks into a vicious right cross which sends him to the ropes. The Argentinian is forced to cover up until the bell. Perez 58 - 57.

Round 7 - Canto works his jab and evens the scorecards. Even 67 - 67.

Round 8 - The Mexican seems to have sent his opponent to sleep. Perez's workrate has dropped suddenly and he hasn't thrown a decent right hand for somewhile. Canto apperars to have edged ahead for the first time in the fight. Canto 77 - 76.

Round 9 - The fight is now back on plan for Canto. He is parrying Perez's blows and answering with accurate counters of his own. There is a slight swelling building around perez's right eye. Canto 87 - 85.

Round 10 - Perez stops the rot. He goes on the offensive and lands a handful of heavy right hands to both head and body. Canto 96 - 95.

Round 11 - Once again Perez goes on the front foot, he lands heavily early in the round then Canto edges back with his rapier like lead left but it is Perez that does the scoring. The fight is all square with four rounds remaining.

Round 12 - Good round for Canto. he flies out of the corner and lands some accurate right crosses, Perez seems to be slowing and he returns to his corner looking jaded. Canto 115 - 114.

Round 13 - Perez goes head hunting, but its meat and drink to canto who picks him off with ease. Canto 125 - 123.

Round 14 - Canto is still fresh whilst Perez appears out on his feet. The Mexican pokes his jab into the swelling around Perez's right eye. The Argentinian appears to have run out of ideas and barring a knockout the title is Canto's. Canto 135 - 132.

Round 15 - canto gifts the last three minutes to the fatigued Perez. He goes to the ropes and soaks up some hefty blows to the midrift. Let's hope for Canto's sake that he has done enough on the cards!

Here is the judges verdict ....

Lou Fillipo scores it 144 - 141 Canto

Harold Lederman scores it 143 - 143 Even.

Dave Parris scores it 145 - 141 Canto

Canto is the Flyweight King!
