April 20,21,22 at Seattle Mariners (6-6)

April 20-Jay Buhner went 3-4 with two RBI and Tino Martinez added a two run blast as Seattle squeaked past Boston, 5-4. Dave Fleming went the first eight innings, scattering eight hits and two runs, walking one and striking out four, winning his first game of the year. (10-4)

April 21-Randy Johnson outdueled Roger Clemens, and Seattle won their second straight game over Boston, beating the Sox 6-2. Johnson struck out seven in seven innings, allowing just the two runs, while Clemens was battered for 11 hits and five runs over seven innings of work. (10-5)

April 22-Edgar Martinez drove in Pete O'Brien with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, accounting for the only run of the game as John Cummings and three relievers combined to blank the Red Sox on six hits, 1-0. Aaron Sele was the hardluck loser, going the distance, allowing only four hits and the one unearned run, walking four and striking out four. (10-6)

April 23,24,25 at California Angels (7-7)

April 23-John Valentin went 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and John Dopson went six strong innings, helping Boston break their four game lsoing streak, beating the Angels 5-3. Dopson gave up seven hits and two runs, walking one and striking out seven, improving to 3-0 on the year. (11-6)

April 24-Rod Correia turned a tight 2-1 ball game into a 6-1 rout with an eighth inning grand slam off Frank Viola, leading the Angels to an eventual 7-1 victory. Julio Valera went 8 2/3 innings, giving up sight hits and two walks, striking out four, earning the win. Chuck Carr supplied all the Sox offense, going 3-4 with an RBI in the loss. (11-7)

April 25-Stan Javier hit a solo homerun and J.T. Snow added a two run double as the Angels took two of three from the Red Sox, beating Boston 5-3. Andre Dawson hit his first homerun as a member of the Red Sox and number 400 for his career in the loss. Dawson became the 22nd member of the 400 homerun club with his two run shot off Phil Leftwich in the third inning. (11-8)

-Roberto Alomar and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed on a three year contract worth $9.9 million dollars. On the year, the 25 year old Alomar is hitting .294 1-9 in 18 games, after hitting .310 8-76 with 49 steals in 58 attempts last year for the World Champion Jays.
