5th April 1894 - National Sporting Club, London
European and Commonwealth Bantamweight Title
Billy Plimmer (23-2-2)(14)(H) TKO2 Pedlar Palmer (16-4-1)(7)
It took Plimmer less than 5 minutes to stop Palmer.
Plimmer (below) started brightly landing some crisp left jabs and right hooks whilst the challenger hardly landed a blow.
With the bell for the start of the second round still reverberating around the NSC Plimmer landed a superb right cross to the chin of Palmer. The Londoner struggled to his feet at the eight count only to walk into another right cross and find himself on the canvas for the second time in the round. A minute later Plimmer landed a flurry of punches which sent Palmer down again and invoked the three knockdown rule to end the contest.
This was an excellent performance from the Birmingham born scrapper who will now have his eye on the world crown.
