1939: The Inaugural Hall of Fame ballot

It's (finally) time for the first Hall of Fame ballot!

I've selected a group of players who completed playing careers of at least ten seasons, and who have been retired for at least three years.

Voters may vote for up to ten (10) players on each annual ballot. Any player who receives at least 75% of the votes cast in an election will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

A player may remain on the ballot for up to 12 seasons. If he has not been elected by that time, his eligibility will end.

Any player who does not receive a vote in an election will be dropped from the ballot.

You may post your votes here, or send them to me in a private message.

And, it's not too late to become a voter. If you'd like to become part of the group of electors, just let me know, and cast a ballot. The more, the merrier.

Without further ado, here are the statistics for the players who appear on the first ballot. First, the position players:

And, here are some of the accomplishments these pitchers earned during their careers:

Blanton: 1925 Outstanding Pitcher Award; 1 wins title.

Ornelas: 1923 Outstanding Pitcher Award, 2 wins title, 1 shutout title.
Orozoco: 1922, 1928 Outstanding Pitcher Awards; 3 wins titles, 1 shutout title.
Wise: 1 wins title, 1 WHIP title.

There won't usually be so many players to evaluate; I have a feeling there will be some players who will drop off the ballot for lack of support this time.

I'll keep the balloting open until Thursday, January 7.
