26th April 1894 - Lansdowne Road, Dublin
World Featherweight Title
Dick Hollywood (12-0-0)(9)(Holder) V Walter Edgerton (14-9-0)(6)
Both fighters look in 'good nick' when they enter the ring.
The bout is the first encounter between the pair.
Round 1 - Edgerton (right) starts nicely landing some swift jabs and flashy right hands. Edgerton 10 - 9
Round 2 - Hollywood (left) gets down to work and lands to the body, but its Edgerton who 'nicks' the points with a late flurry. Edgerton 20 - 18
Round 3 - Hollywood is reprimanded for butting before landing a right cross above Edgerton's right eye, the blow draws blood. Seconds later Hollywood lands a hook which cuts Edgerton over his left eye! The challenger's forhead is awash with claret. Edgerton 30 - 27
Round 4 - Hollywood does marginally the better work in a non event round. Edgerton 39 - 37
Round 5 - Hollywood edges the round as a left hook reopens the cut over Edgerton's right eye. The challenger may have to go for broke. Edgerton 48 - 47
Round 6 - This is no classic, Hollywood is very lethargic, the Irishman takes to the ropes after a right cross from Edgerton lands on the button. George Dixon is at ringside for this, he must be pretty happy at what he has seen so far. Edgerton 58 - 56
Round 7 - Better from Hollywood, he works well inside and gives the locals something to shout about. Edgerton 67 - 66
Round 8 - The crowd boo as the pair return to their stools, Edgerton does just enough to reopen a two point gap. The corner are doing a good job with the two cuts over the American's eyes. Edgerton 77 - 75
Round 9 - The title is slipping away from Hollywood, the champ has been worse than lacklustre. Edgerton 87 - 84
Round 10 - The corner gives Hollywood a rollicking, he comes out all guns blazing but Edgerton picks him off with ease, as The Kentucky Rosebud returns to his stool it's evident that the cut over his left eye has reopened. Edgerton 97 - 93
Round 11 - Hollywood lands a left hook and the blood flows from the cut over Edgerton's right eye, within thirty seconds the American wrestles himself away from Hollywood with blood pouring from the cut over his left eye, Edgerton is led to the ringside doctor who shakes his head at Edgerton
Hollywood retains his title!
Surprisingly at the time of the stoppage the hometown boy was only a point behind on two of the scorecards.
George Dixon is in the wings for Hollywood, the Canadian will travel to London next month and defend his Bantamweight title against George Corfield, he will then travel over to Dublin in June and attempt to win the Featherweight title from Hollywood in Dublin.
