USA Welterweight Title
Rube Ferns (20-0-1)(11)(Holder) UD12 Andy Watson (16-4-1)(3)
Ferns (below) handed out a terrible beating to the challenger. The Pittsburgh born scrapper came within a whisker of being the first man to stop Watson. Ferns scored the fights only knockdown in the final round after landing a withering right hook. Watson did well to get to his feet only to walk into a barrage of punches.
Ferns was in the ascendency throughout and found Watson to be a surprisingly open target. The tenth round was a shocker for Watson as he soaked up countless hefty blows to both head and midriff.
Post fight Ferns connections stated that they would be looking to make a match with Utah Bob Thompson with Ferns American title at stake.
