May 14,15,16 at Minnesota Twins (12-21)

May 14-Kent Hrbek went 4-4 with a double and an RBI and Kirby Puckett added two hits and two RBI as Minnesota beat up on Boston, 6-2. Kevin Tapani pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings, giving up just three hits, walking three and striking out four, earning the win. (17-18)

May 15-Eddie Guardado pitched into the eighth inning, giving up eight hits and three runs, walking two and striking out four and Kirby Puckett hit a two run homerun as Minnesota beat Boston for a second straight day, today 6-4. John Valentin had two hits and an RBI in the loss for the Sox. (17-19)

May 16-Mike Greenwell hit a two run homerun, and Scott Fletcher and Chuck Carr each drove in three runs as Boston avoided the sweep, beating up on the Twins, 12-4. Roger Clemens went the distance for the Red Sox, allowing five hits and four runs, two earned, with four walks and four strikeouts, picking up the win. (18-19)

May 17,18,19 v Toronto Blue Jays (13-24)

May 17-Scott Fletcher had four hits and four runs scored, John Valentin had two doubles and two RBI and Mo Vaughn drove in three runs as Boston beat the struggling Blue Jays 8-5. Danny Darwin won his first start in a month, pitching six innings, giving up four runs, just one earned though, walking three and striking out one. (19-19)

May 18-Fransisco Cabrera, claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves the day prior, broke a 5-5 tie with a bases loaded, two run single off Mike Timlin, giving the Red Sox the 7-5 win over Toronto. John Dopson pitched solid over seven innings, giving up seven hits and just two earned runs, walking two and striking out seven. (20-19)

May 19-A four run top of the eighth inning, capped by a two run triple off the bat of Paul Molitor, turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 Blue Jays victory, helping them avoid the sweep. Todd Stottlemyre pitched eight innings, giving up eight hits and just one run, striking out four in the win. (20-20)
