Shake-Up In Philadelphia,As Struggling Phillies Make 2 Big Trades
Philadelphia,Pa.-With a team batting average of .227(11th in NL) and 8 losses in their last 10 games,the Philadelphia Phillies looked like a team headed nowhere,so without hesitation Phillies GM Paul Owens made two huge trades,which could impact the team for the foreseeable future.In the first trade,the Phillies sent 25 year old RF George Vukovich,21 year old reliever Jay Baller,32 year old reliever Ed Farmer,28 year old OF Dick Davis,and highly touted 23 year old SS Julio Franco to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for 23 year old RF Von Hayes,who the Phillies are very high on,and 29 year old starting pitcher John Denny,the best overall player in the deal.A few hours later,the Phillies announced the acquisition of superstar 2B Joe Morgan from the Giants in exchange for 30 year old starter Mike Krukow.
