I should check before the signing period to see how the teams stand financially. I'm guessing that some of the teams were strapped for cash for extentions. That could explain the low amount that Nap Lajoie signed for and for "Turkey" Donlin not being signed as of the beginning of the 1905 season.
Mike "Turkey" Donlin was signed by Cleveland on opening day. (1-year, $16,220)
