Royals Strand 29 Runners in Win over the Phillies!
07/12/2012
Usually when the two best records meet in inter-league play, there are fireworks to be seen. But instead we saw a bunch of duds and upset fans at the end of the game.
Somehow the Royals managed to strand 29 men on base but came away with a 3-2 victory over the Phillies. Along with the 29 men left of base, the Royals managed a team record 13 walks in the game.
It was almost like watching a Double A game out there. The Phillies starting pitcher,
Nick Bourgeois contributed the most with nine walks over five innings pitched.
Manager
Antonio DeLeon had this to say after the game, "This was just sickening. We consistently got men in scoring position but my guys just forgot how to hit. We could have easily scored 15 runs tonight if it wasn't for our incompetence at the plate. Hawksworth pitched an absolute gem of a game but all he gets is a no decision. Anyone have any shots ready?"
Even though the Royals managed to win the third game of the series to not be swept, it almost feels like they lost because of how poorly they played. The win does improve the Royals to 39-20 and they currently hold a seven game lead over the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
"Let's just have a beer and forget all about this game." said Melvin Colmenares at last nights press conference. And we can safely assume all the Royal faithful have the same thing in their mind after watching this game.
