It is important to note when looking at career leaders and milestones, such as 2000 hits, that the first 5 NBL seasons (1988-92) were only 56-game seasons. The next two seasons (1993-94) were only 80-game seasons. So, a player who's been in the league since it began would have missed out on 691 games that a full 162-game schedule would have allowed.

Monday 5/12/2003: Miguel Nunez collects 2000th hit against Louisiana
ARIZONA - Arizona's rightfielder Miguel Nunez already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 2000 where he hit .351 with 48 homeruns and 154 RBI. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' His hit in the 2nd inning was a double off Dorio Chavez.

Wednesday 5/7/2003: Tennessee's Gary Cerex gets milestone hit
MISSOURI - Gary Cerex got a standing ovation from 35689 fans in Missouri, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 1st inning was a single off Alvin Trudeau. Along with his 2000 hits, Gary collected 188 homeruns and 1008 RBI in 19 seasons. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.'

Thursday 5/1/2003: Alaska's Van Jander named Pitcher of the Month
Rusty Catlin pitched like a legend in April, and the Southern named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He started 6 games in April, going 3-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.83 in 44.1 innings. Rusty fanned 26 hitters. Rusty also fired a shutout. Paul Van Jander pitched like a legend in April, and the Northern named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His record of 5-1 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 49 innings of work he allowed just 40 hits while striking out 40, compiling an ERA of just 2.02. Paul also fired a shutout.

Thursday 5/1/2003: Batter of the Month award winners announced
Nevada's leftfielder Brock Young had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Southern Batter of the Month. Brock was on fire, hitting .339 with 12 homeruns and 31 RBI. It's the 2nd time that the Northern Batter of the Month award goes to Michigan's leftfielder Wendell Aldwin. Aldwin helped his team with an average of .408 and 32 RBI in 103 at bats.

Wednesday 4/23/2003: Kevin Martin out for 5 weeks
TENNESSEE - Tennessee's Kevin Martin suffered a serious injury Wednesday in a game against Oklahoma. Martin fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Martin was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Foot. He has hit 9 longballs while batting .308 this season. His 24 hits and 13 walks add up to a .402 on-base percentage. He's 1st in the Southern in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!

Tuesday 4/22/2003: South Carolina's Mills severely injured
SOUTH CAROLINA - South Carolina is without its ace Cy Mills for at least 10 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Chris Sheldon in a game against Georgia. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. South Carolina wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Mills had suffered a Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Cy has a record of 1-2 this season, with an ERA of 2.95. In 36.2 Innings he was able to strike out 17 batters.

Saturday 4/19/2003: Derek Ingram (WSH) will miss 6 weeks
WASHINGTON - Washington's Derek Ingram suffered a serious injury Saturday in a game against New Hampshire. Ingram fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 6 weeks. Washington wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Ingram had suffered a Inflamed Posterior Cruciate Ligament. He has hit 5 longballs while batting .344 this season. His 22 hits and 13 walks add up to a .456 on-base percentage. He's 6th in the Northern in RBIs and 5th in homeruns!

Saturday 4/19/2003: Dale Spittser has 2000th career hits
GEORGIA - Virginia's centerfielder Dale Spittser joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a single in the 3rd off Luther Whatley for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Dale collected 168 homeruns and 848 RBI in 21 seasons. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.'
