Wright is rated 8 and McCarty is a 7. Looking at their ratings, they are pretty similar.
Wright has a good list of folks he deteated, he had a 52-15 record. Maybe he was not noticed much fighting in the time frame of Dempsey and the other greats of the 1920's.
McCarty's record, looking at his bio in TB has a notable win vs. Al Palzer, who was 9-7. Also Fireman Flynn noted had 47-42 overall, not the best examples of tough opponets. I wonder if we give McCarty too much credit due to his tragic final fight?
