Opening Day In Cooperstown League Did Not Disappoint
Monday April 6th

There were big hits and dramatic finishes as the Cooperstown League opened in the style around the country. Ed Walsh was still the master of the mound with his one hitter but other games captured the imagination in what is sure to be a dynamic season.

Cleon Jones Walk Off

The Mets opened the season by coming from behind th beat the LA Angels in their last at bat. The hero of the night was Mets outfielder Cleon Jones who hit a walk off two run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning off of Troy Percicval with his team trailing by a run.

Jim Edmonds had given the Angels a one run lead with a home run in the 11th but the lead would not hold up as the Mets completed their 18 hit attack and pulled it off in the ninth.

Seaver 15 K's

The Mets were lead by their ace Tom Seaver who pitched 10 innings and struck out 15 Angels in the process. A gutsy effort by Seaver that will set the standard for the remainder of the season.

Boone Drives In Five as Mariners Sink Tigers

Brett Boone isnt the most feared man in the Mariner lineup but the second baseman had a great opening day leading the home team to a 7-3 win.

Boone homered off Justin Verlander and was a big part of a five run inning that turned the game around. Ty Cobb went 0-4 against Randy Johnson but did drive in a run.

DelGado The Difference

Carlos DelGado smashed a two run home run at the Metrodome which was the only runs of the game in a good pitching duel to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 opening win.

Roy Halladay allowed only three hits going the distance while Bert Blylaven had a good start as well but his one mistake in the third inning proved to be the difference.
