Shutouts Sparkle Day
Two impressive shutouts were the highlights of this Friday in the Cooperstown League. Tom Seaver suprizes no one with his strong performances and on this night against the Milwuakee Brewers, Seaver made sure he earned his first win in a 10-0 Mets romp. Seaver struck out nine and walked only one as he had it all going including offensive support as the Mets up their record to 3-2.
In another even more impressive performance came from Twins starter Frank Viola who made his first start of the season. Viola was a question to whether he would even make the Twins rotation stepped up against the Indians. Viola allowed only two hits to the Indians who everyone knows has a very potent offense. If Viola puts together a good string, the Twins could really be a power in the AL West.
Reds Sting Giants
The Cincinnati Reds introduced themselves to Giants closer Rod Beck. The Reds who were down three runs heading into the top of the ninth inning, put together a big inning and knock off the Giants by an 8-7 final.
Kluszewski with 4 RBI
Ted Kluszewski had a big game including a three run home run off Beck in the 9th inning, his second of the season, to finish the game with four RBI. The Giants will have to closer look at their closer role as they are sure to have close games that they just need to close out. The Reds did end the game with 16 hits in total.
Red Sox Continue To Roll
The Boston Red Sox are the hottest hitting team in the league as they put aside Bret Saberhagen and the Royals 11-3. The Red Sox had 18 hits on the night, this coming off of a 20 hit game yesterday to really impress. The Sox are hitting through out their lineup and have a .333 average for the young season.
Cy Young won his first game of the season.
