Half Review |
The
Brooklyn Superbas have bounced back from their 7th place finish
from a year ago (65-75) to take a two game lead over the defending
champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Brooklyn has scored the 5th most
runs in the league, and given up the 3rd least. Fourth overall
pick Jim St. Vrain is 6-7 with a 2.93 ERA.
Over
in the American League, the Orioles are showing promise after
their 6th place finish last year (67-73). The team is being
led by offense, as they rank first in batting average, 2nd
in walks, 1st in stolen bases, and 1st in runs scored.
Pop
Foster is on a crushing pace, as he has 9 homeruns at the
break. Socks Seybold holds the league record with 12 homeruns.
Foster also has a shot for the triple crown, as he is first
in average, first in homeruns, and 3rd in RBI, 3 behind Baltimore
SS Bill Keister.
Cy
Young is showing age is just a number, the 35 year old has
a league leading 1.56 ERA.
Third
round pick George "Deerfoot" Barclay is having an
impressive rookie season with a .288 batting average and 26
steals. First overall pick Addie Joss is 7-7 with a 2.98 ERA
for the Cleveland Bronchos.

Game Recap |
Being
played at Huntington Avenue Grounds, home of the Boston Somersets,
44,976 fans showed up to watch NL All-Stars take care of the
AL All-Stars 9-4, bouncing back from last years 4-3 loss.
Honus
Wagner of Pittsburgh was named MVP of the game, as he went
1 for 3 with 3 RBI. Starting pitcher Al Orth got the win as
he went 3 innings allowing no runs on three hits, while Bill
Bernhard (starting his second straight All-Star game) got
the loss by going 3 innings and allowing three runs on one
hit and three walks. Nap Lajoie had three hits for the American
League. Game time was 4 hours and 9 minutes.
