GCB Ring Rap Issue # 17 February 30, 1902
Welcome fight fans. So far this year the GCB has exploded with excitement! With only two months behind us here in 1902, we have already crowned three new Champions!
As you know by now, our first World Champion was crowned on January 30. In a surprise finish, Collin “Tweety” Byrd, who has not been known for his power, gave Joseph “Showtime” Metzger a pounding for thirteen rounds before finishing him off by KO. Collin became the first ever GCB World Champion!
After the fight, Metzger fired his trainer accusing him of not preparing him properly for the fight.
The truth is, everyone was surprised by Byrd’s sudden burst of power and aggressiveness. No trainer could have foreseen the freight train that hit Metzger that night. I guess you have got to blame somebody.

After crowning the GCB World Champion, we then began to crown our regional Champs. As you remember, each fighter in the MAIN EVENT group is placed in one of three regions that best identifies where his home country is located. Only those fighters in each region can compete for the regional Title.
Our second Title fight took place on February 15 and was for the Western Continental Title. Youngster, “Killer” Kelly Carter, from the USA, faced Mexico’s Miguel “The Bull” Torria. Torria came out slugging and flattened Carter in the second round. Carter found himself almost out for the count, but regained his composure and fought back strong. Carter out scored “The Bull” for the rest of the fight and was named, by Unanimous Decision, the winner of the fight and first ever GCB Western Continental Champion!
