Burks named Batter of the Month for May
June 1, 2004
Boston DH/OF Ellis Burks had a splendid May and was rewarded with the AL's Batter of the Month award.
He batted .386 during the month with eight HRs and 37 RBIs. He has a league-leading 48 RBIs in all, splitting time as the team's designated hitter with David Ortiz and also playing some in left field.
"The biggest problem I have, if you can call it that, is finding room for all of my big boppers," said Boston manager Terry Francona. "Ortiz, Manny, Millar and Nixon are also swinging the bats well right now. It's a nice problem to have."
Preston Wilson (COL) earned the NL Batter of the Month award. Brad Radke (MIN) and Mark Prior (CHC) were the Pitchers of the Month. Radke was 6-0 in May, while Prior was 4-0 with a 1.17 ERA and one shutout.
