Red Sox, MLB teams getting ready for amateur draft
Boston Globe * June 1, 2004
With more than a dozen would-be free agents and a limited budget, the Boston Red Sox consider this week's amateur draft vital to their future.
"We may not do much upgrading to the big club over the course of this season, but we definitely need to beef up our farm system for the future," said GM Theo Epstein. "We believe there are some good players out there for the picking."
While their abilities remain to be seen, two names in particular should jump out at scouts -- Sandy Koufax Jr. and Freddie Lindstrom Jr. Both are descendants of Hall-of-Fame players by the same name.
"We're looking hard at Lindstrom," Epstein said of the infielder. "He could probably step right in to AA ball today, maybe even AAA, and do well."
