FITZSIMMONS PICKS HIMSELF UP OFF THE CANVAS AND PUNISHES CRAIG
July 07, 1904
Bob Fitzsimmons (16-0) survived a first round knockdown then systematically destroyed Frank Craig (15-6-1) over the next 14 rounds for a UD in his 7th middleweight title defense.
Fitz took a nine count from a vicious body shot in the opening minute of the first round. He managed to survive Craig's attempt to end it and hung on until the end of the round.
Craig then paid the price for pissing Fitz off. Craig got a broken nose in the 4th, a cut over his right eye in the 5th, knocked down in the 8th, swollen left eye in the 8th, knocked down in the 12th, and knocked down again in the 15th.
It seemed as though Fitz could've ended it anytime he wanted to but wanted to punish Craig instead.
I had it scored 145-136. Danny Wildhawke at ringside had it 145-137. The official judges had it 146-136/144-137/146-136
