Root Defends Title
November 10, 1904
Jack Root (18-4) won a UD15 over #7 Duncan McDonald (6-8-1) for his first defense since regaining the title. Root fought McDonald back in December of 1902 and won a lopsided decision then. This bout was no different.
Root dominated from the start. He suffered a cut under his left eye in the second but it was quickly stopped. It was a slow and boring fight with the crowd booing throughout.
I had Root winning 147-138. Walt Arnold at ringside had it 145-140. The official judges had it 148-137/144-141/149-137.
